When the 3-year restructure plans were announced in April, the SDA immediately begun consulting with members across Big W stores around Australia to ensure workers had the representation and support they needed.
We note that the stores will not be closing for approximately 6 months from the time of notice. The SDA will be using this time to work with our members to secure ongoing work for them.
The SDA will work with its members to ensure that Big W employees receive their rights and entitlements and to ensure employees are fully supported throughout this process.
The union will also work with the company and members to identify suitable redeployment opportunities for Big W staff wherever possible.
The 84% of Big W stores which will remain open and other Woolworths brand stores all provide opportunities for the SDA and Big W to secure ongoing employment wherever possible.
