SDA calls for fair wage increases for retail & fast food workers

WAGES GROWTH IS AT RECORD LOWS
Australian wages are at record lows. ABS Wage Price Index show private sector wages
only rose 1.8% from March 2016 to March 2017. This is the one of the lowest periods of
wage growth recorded in Australian history.

HARD-WORKING AUSTRALIANS NOT GETTING A FAIR SHARE
Productivity and profits are up but wages are not. The lack of wages growth indicates
that Australians are working harder than ever before but not receiving their fair share of
the pie.

RISING COST OF LIVING
While wages sit at record lows, the cost of living continues to go up. Everything is
going up from groceries and electricity bills to uni fees and health insurance. This is
making it harder for retail and fast food workers to get by.

BETTER WAGES, BETTER FOR ECONOMY
Wages growth is critical to driving the economy. If wages fall behind, workers will have
less to spend in local shops, cafes & restaurants. This will hurt local businesses, our
economy and our community.

TIME FOR A PAY RISE
The SDA is calling for fair wage increases for retail & fast food
workers across the country. Fair and decent pay rises help workers make ends meet, to
provide for their families and save for the future.
