Joe de Bruyn, the SDA’s former National Secretary, will receive a high award from the President of the Republic of Poland at a ceremony in Melbourne on Thursday, 6 August.
Mr de Bruyn will be awarded one of Poland’s highest honours – the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Polish Republic – by the Consul General, Republic of Poland, Ms. Regina Jurowska on behalf of the President of Poland.
The award recognises Joe de Bruyn’s enduring support of the Solidarity movement and democracy in Poland in the 1980’s.
Joe de Bruyn is currently the honorary President of the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees’ Association (SDA) and was the National Secretary of the SDA between 1978 and 2015.
